Kyle Wade

Pastoral and Family Care Minister

Kyle was born and raised in Garland, Texas. After graduating from ACU in 1996 he came to Southwest and has never left. While much of this time was spent in student ministry, Kyle now fills the role of Pastoral and Family Care Minister.

Our call as a body at Southwest is to make disciples through relationships, yet we live such isolated lives. Our belief is that every disciple of Jesus needs true community.  Another way to say this is that everyone needs a Timothy (someone to love, shepherd, and serve) and everyone needs a Paul (a disciple who is further down the road in their spiritual journey and is willing to pour their lives into others). We as disciples need family.

Kyle’s passion is to connect our body in intergenerational relationships for the cause of becoming more like Christ. His most ardent supporter in this venture is his wife, Jennifer.. They have four children…Morgan, Brock, Ellee, and Brooks.

Kyle's Q&A...

What are your hobbies?

I love golf, even though I don’t get to play very often. There is something really enjoyable about being out in the sun and trying to enjoy the good shots and muddle through the bad ones. I also would have to say I love watching my kids play whatever sport it is they are into at the moment.

Greatest accomplishment?

I would have to say my greatest accomplishment is making it through graduate school. There were times that I didn’t think I could finish. In fact, I tried to quit more than once. Glad I did it. Glad it is over.

If you could travel anywhere, where would it be?

I want to go to Europe one. Over the last few years I have become fascinated by World War 2. I would love to visit the countries and see the history that changed the world.

Favorite foods?

Sharky’s

Favorite vacation?

Disney World. Don’t laugh…I thought I would hate it but Jennifer convinced me to go and our family had a great time! Couldn’t have been more fun!

Favorite Bible verse?

Luke 15- The story of the prodigal paints a picture of YHWH as well as a picture of humanity. Our God is ridiculous!

Favorite book (other than the Bible)?

Anything by Henri Nouwen

Mac or PC?

Who cares.

If you could share just one of Jesus' teachings with someone what would it be?

I think I would share the story of the woman caught in adultery in John 8. There is so much there that reveals the heart of God but that also reveals the heart of man. In a culture filled with shame and guilt, Jesus steps in and reminds us all of our deep need for him.

Favorite moment at Southwest?

Over twenty years of memories…who could pick just one? I would have to say it is the relationships I have built over these many years. My favorite moments are those with this family where God used us to change each other. I think that is what Christian community is all about. I am grateful to have so many favorite moments.

What do you love about Southwest?

I have literally grown up in this body. Because of this, the Southwest family has seen me at my best and at my worst. I love that they have allowed me space and time to grow. This is my family. I love them for who they are and they love me…warts and all.
