Spiritual Family Formation

Adult Class Schedule

Each semester we seek to further our vision of making disciples through relationships by offering a myriad of opportunities to engage God through study and conversation. Why do we create and sustain these environments here at Southwest?

  • To foster a desire for the Lord and for the Scriptures

  • To build relationships which create belonging

  • To equip our people to live missionally in our city

Spring 2018 - Sunday Mornings

January - March

Psalms

What is your favorite book of the Bible? Would a Christian ever nominate the Old Testament Psalms for the honor? Why, or why not? The Psalms are certainly full of Christ. They embrace the whole life of man, the affections of his mind, and the emotions of his soul. There is a psalm to praise and glorify God on almost any occasion. The life we live in relation both to the wicked who oppose us and to the God who sustains us is blessed by the Psalms. Come; live in the Psalms with us for a few weeks.

Philippians: To Live is Christ, To Die is Gain

40's & 50's

The story begins in Philippi where Paul introduces three individuals that were all enslaved by the kind of things that we often choose over the gospel: Lydia-the Business Executive, The Little Slave Girl, and The Hard Working Jailer. Their lives portray dysfunction and emptiness, but are totally transformed by the Gospel. True joy and Christ's love begin to live within them, giving them a life of purpose. In fact, Paul himself was enslaved and then by God's grace and mercy he could pen these popular and profound words: To Live is Christ and to Die is Gain. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Spiritual Renewal in the Midst of Cultural Chaos

20's & 30's

In Romans 12, Paul tells us – "Don't be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind."  But how do we do that while running 100 miles per hour and still feeling like we're falling behind in many cases?  How do we find the "peace, hope, and joy" we are promised in the midst of chaos?  In this 10-week class we will look at current cultural threats to the promises we have in this life as Christ-followers and how Paul especially tells us we can overcome them.

Hebrews

What do we do with grace? Receiving grace is about the only thing one can do with it!  Religion is defined as “the organized attempt to ‘get it all together for God’”. It is time to see Hebrews in its true light and pray to have God shine on us.
